Fire Police

Fire Police are members of the Fort Washington Fire Company (FWFC) who perform various functions to keep Fire Fighters, and the public safe.  All members of the FWFC are volunteers, as are its Fire Police officers.  They are trained to assist police, fire, local officials and event organizers.  Fort Washington Fire Police are empowered to handle various emergency and non-emergency situations.

Fire Police Duties

• To regulate traffic at the scene of any emergency to which the Fort Washington Fire Company, and/or any other local fire company, has been called.
• To protect emergency personnel, including police, fire fighters and other first responders from interference or dangerous conditions.
• To protect the general public from emergency scene operations that could endanger their welfare.
• To keep emergency response areas clear and available to police, fire fighters, ambulance crews and other first responders.
• To cooperate with all police agencies related to safety and protection of emergency personnel and the public.
• To safeguard the participants and pedestrians at parades, races and other public service events from vehicular traffic and other hazards.
