On Monday September 22, the Fort Washington Fire Company hosted our 20th annual Fire & Life Safety Expo. We were fortunate once again that we could use the Upper Dublin Township Building and Loch Alsh Avenue. The weather was fantastic, and brought out another large crowd to see the Expo, and learn from the variety of activities. Popular demonstrations and exhibits were presented by our fire company, many other fire departments; police agencies, emergency medical services, and organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute, Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, Underwriter’s Laboratories, and others. As always, visitors had fun at the water target, meeting with “Patches” the robot fire dog, watching the police K-9 demonstration, the MONTCO Sheriff Bomb Unit Robot, and visiting the North Penn Fire Company Fire Safety House.
Demonstrations included using the “Jaws of Life” in a vehicle extrication, how to extinguish oven fires, proper use of a fire extinguisher, sprinkler systems, tower ladder bucket rides compliments of the Upper Gwynedd Fire Dept. laying down a foam blanket compliments of the LaMott Fire Dept, using a real fire hose to spray water at a target, and our own “Hazard House”.
We would like to thank the Upper Dublin Township, Upper Dublin School District, the Church of the Open Door and many others who played a huge part in the success of this year’s Fire Expo.
Feedback received thus far indicated that everyone had a great time. We appreciate your comments, as they help us to know what you liked and what you did not. Please let us know.
We have already started planning for next year’s Expo, with some new ideas. Please watch for our announcements for our 2009 Expo and plan to attend.
