For those individuals who insist on taking the risk, we offer the following safety tips:

  • Fireworks are not toys, treat them with respect, and never allow a child to handle them.
  • Never carry fireworks in your pocket.  Store them and transport them properly.
  • Always read and follow the directions on the labels and be very careful using fireworks.
  • Light ONE firework at a time.
  • Only use fireworks outdoors, on a flat, smooth surface and away from people.
  • If fireworks fail to light the first time, DO NOT try to light them again.  They could explode in your hands.
  • Point fireworks away from people and buildings.
  • Do not use fireworks near trees, bushes, or brush.
  • Fireworks should not be held after lighting.
  • Keep a bucket of water close by for emergencies.
  • Teach children not to touch fireworks if they should find them, but to immediately tell an adult.  They should be treated the same way as matches and lighters.
  • Even the most innocent looking firework, sparklers, cause many injuries – mostly to children.  Sparklers are designed to burn hot (1200 degrees F), and stay hot long after they have burned out.
