2 Alarm Building Fire

October 18, 2015

At 6:30 AM, units from 88, 400, 500 and 700 were dispatched for a building fire at the Lulu Country Club. Due to several 911 calls, Montco initiated the working fire dispatch. Chief 88 arrived with smoke and fire showing from Side A and immediately called for a 2nd alarm, as it was clear that the fire was already well advanced and consuming the main ball room. Engine 88-1 arrived and performed a split lay at the main entrance, which was picked up by Oreland Engine 703 and proceeded to side A, where they led off with a master stream. Engine 88 laid in from a second hydrant at Fitzwatertown and Limekiln and their lay was completed by Engine 702. At this point, fire was consuming the majority of the building and additional master stream devices were put in service as well as the ladder pipes from Tower 88 (side C), Ladder 400 and Tower 500 (side A) and Ladder 6 (side C). A third water supply was also established from Limekiln Pike to support the operation. Calls for smoke in the area came in from as far away as York Road. The bulk of the fire was knocked down at 8:55 and most if the mutual aid units were released by noon. Excavation equipment was then brought in to aid in reaching hot spots. 88 units cleared around 4PM.

Special thanks to Willow Grove and Elkins Park Fire Companies for covering our local for several hours from Station 88-A.
