Training Center

Formally dedicated in 1972, our fire training center was built entirely by the members of the fire company, led by Chief George Haggar. The Fort Washington Fire Company is both fortunate and very proud to have our own training facility. This facility has trained many of our members over the years, not to mention countless members from numerous neighboring departments. Our fire training center has allowed the Fort Washington Fire Company to continue as one of the most proficient, well-trained fire companies in the area. Some of the key features of the training center are:

  • 2 Story Burn Building-has movable walls and allows us to train for a variety of scenarios we may encounter.

  • Propane Gas Area-allows fire fighters to utilize hoselines to displace gas and shut off valves.

  • Sprinker System Mock-Up-teaches fire fighters the components of a sprinkler system, how to stop water flow, etc.

  • Trench and Shoring Pit-teaches fire fighters the proper way to shore a trench as well as how to perform rescue after a collapse.

  • Drill Tower-used for aerial operations as well as rope rescue and high angle scenarios.

  • Drafting Pit-Allows pump operators to practice drafting as well as performing annual service tests on our engines.

  • Confined Space Simulation-teaches members to use air monitoring equipment as well as harnesses, tripods, etc.

  • Search and Rescue Maze-members must navigate through tight spaces in complete darkness, simulating a real fire.
