Jerry Smith Jr - The Primary Search
Jerry is a Philadelphia native where he started his fire service career in 1995 as a volunteer firefighter with the Fort Washington Fire Co. No. 1 (Station 88); following his Father’s footsteps. In 2001, Jerry received a BBA from Loyola University Maryland, which ultimately introduced him to the City of Baltimore. In 2004, he joined the ranks of the Baltimore City Fire Department as a FF/PM. He spent 8.5 years riding “the step” assigned to a busy ladder company in East Baltimore. In 2012, Jerry was re-assigned to Rescue Company 1 where he currently serves as a Firefighter. He is also associated with Leadership Under Fire, Inc. serving as a tactical instructor.
Jason Brezler - Mental Performance on the fireground
Jason is a firefighter with the FDNY's Special Operations Command and currently serves with Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn. He was previously assigned to Squad Co. 252 and Ladder Co. 58 in the Bronx. Jason is a Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and led Marines in both Iraq and Afghanistan where he participated in conventional combat operations, counterinsurgency operations and served as an advisor to indigenous forces. He is a graduate of the USMC's Expeditionary Warfare School and Command and Staff College. He recently served as the Operations Officer for the reserve component of the USMC's Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF). Jason is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis where he played Division 1 baseball for the Midshipman. He also holds a Bachelor's of Science from the University of Maryland and a Master's of Science from Oklahoma State University. He is the founder and Commanding Officer of Leadership Under Fire, Inc., and founder of the Paddy Brown Program which helps military veterans transition into the fire service.
Daniel M. Troxell - Forcible Entry
Dan is a 36-year veteran of the fire service, is a captain in the Washington, D.C. Fire Department. He began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter with both the Fort Washington and Edge Hill Fire Companies in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He served as a volunteer and career firefighter in Prince Georges County, Maryland, starting as a volunteer with the College Park VFD. A Pro Board Certified Level III instructor, he serves as an adjunct instructor with the DCFD Training Academy, and has developed and instructed courses for in-service company training as well as for probationary firefighter training.
He has written several articles for Fire Engineering Magazine, as well as articles for FireNuggets.com and Firehouse.com, and has served as a classroom and HOT instructor at FDIC. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Applied Management, both from the University of Maryland at College Park.
Daniel Saalfrank - High Rise Operations
Dan is a Lieutenant with the FDNY, currently assigned to the 3rd Division, which encompasses Midtown Manhattan through Harlem. He began his fire service career in suburban Philadelphia, following his father’s lead as a member of the Fort Washington Fire Company. He also worked part time with the Upper Moreland Fire Department between 2003 and 2010. He served as a Crash/Rescue Firefighter in the PA Air National Guard between 2001 and 2010, including 1 deployment to Kuwait in support of Operations Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom. He joined the FDNY in 2006, originally assigned to Ladder 169 in the Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, then transferring to Ladder 176 in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Since 2013, he has been a member of the FDNY Incident Management Team, participating in multiple deployments such as wildfires in California and blizzards in Buffalo.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Shippensburg University and is completing a Master’s of Science in Public Administration from John Jay College in New York City." />
