A Working Partnership continued:

Recently, the Fire Training Grounds has benefited from several Eagle Scout projects to upgrade the storage facilities, maintain equipment and perform grounds maintenance.  The committee responsible for the Training Grounds, and specifically George Haggar, has the ability to clearly define projects for the boys to complete. Additionally, he provides mentoring and an understanding of project management skills.  The Fire Company provides the funding for these projects and any specialty skills required to safely complete the projects while the scouts are responsible to plan how the project will be accomplished, recruit and organize the workers, and see the projects through to completion including writing the report required by the Boy Scouts to document their work.

This working relationship provides mutual benefit for both organizations.  The Fire Company is able to take on projects that would normally require the firefighters to use time otherwise set aside for firefighting or training.  The Boy Scouts benefit by having meaningful, organized projects for their Eagle Scout candidates to complete.  Another expected benefit to the Fire Company is some of the scouts go on to be volunteer firefighters and join the ranks of the Fort Washington Fire Company.

The two photos show a storage shed that was installed with the Boy Scouts constructing the crushed stone base required for the shed to sit level.
