Profile Of The Month

Each month we profile one of the many Volunteers that make up the Fort Washington Fire Company. This month we are highlighting Tim Evard

Meet the President of FWFC

Tim Evard, as have many members of the Fort Washington Fire Company, joined the Company as an Upper Dublin High School junior. He started "running fires" for the Company in 1989 at the age of 16.

Following high school graduation in 1991, Tim attended Purdue University graduating in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in Criminology and minors in Sociology and Psychology. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in Administration of Justice.

Tim is also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and has been a member of the Community Ambulance Association of Ambler since 1989 having once served as their Deputy Chief. His EMT skills also come in handy when he is on the slopes with the National Ski Patrol.

In addition to being one of our volunteer firefighters and current fire company President, he has previously served the company in the administrative positions of Secretary and Vice President.

And "Oh by the way", he serves Lower Gwynedd Township as a full time police officer.

I’d like to welcome everyone to the premier edition of the Fort Washington Fire Company No. 1’s community newsletter. It is my hope that with this newsletter, our Fire Company can reach the residents and businesses of Upper Dublin Township and inform you by providing important fire safety and prevention information, monthly activity reports, membership information and general interest items regarding our volunteers.

As I just mentioned and for those of you who were not already aware, the Fort Washington Fire Company is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. This means the countless hours of training, administration and emergency response is done purely out of dedication and altruism to our community. For anyone who has ever been curious about becoming a fire fighter, special fire police, or simply lending a helping hand, we welcome all people sixteen years or older to visit us on any Monday night to see what we are about. We would love to have you.

We also look forward to any questions our subscribers may have. You can send an email to

  • Firefighter Training
  •

Firefighters are trained in many aspects of firefighting and rescue that you were probably unaware of. FWFC is one of very few companies fortunate enough to have its own fire and rescue training grounds right here in the township. At this facility we can give new trainees actual firefighting experience in our “burn house” where they learn under realistic conditions and closely controlled supervision. This training facility also instructs firefighters on how to rescue victims from trenches when they have collapsed around a worker. We will be featuring additional types of firefighter training in future newsletters.

  • Volunteers
  •

As an all volunteer company, we are always looking for new volunteers who wish to serve their community while enjoying the comradery of fellow firefighters who share a passion to serve in some meaningful capacity. Not all firefighters are men; we also have a number of excellent lady firefighters. Not all volunteers become firefighters; some opt for fire police and handle traffic or control crowds at an incident. Others share talents that every organization needs in order to flourish. Our members encompass a wide range of occupations including electricians, plumbers, medical doctors, accountants, educators, computer specialists, heavy equipment operators, mechanics and many, many more.
